From Grace Meibohm & the Staff at Meibohm Fine Arts, Inc. OUR QUALITY & RARITY CODES. QUALITY CODE: Note: Older paintings or original artwork of any kind may be rated somewhat differently based on the codes below, due to the normal aging properties of the different mediums used ex: normal paint cracking with older paintings, toning of paper, foxing on older pieces, etc... Museum Quality, with no damage or visible imperfections.

Almost perfect given the age w/minimal imperfections, minimal blemishes. Above average w/minor imperfections given the age, or minor blemishes.

Average imperfections given the age, or moderate imperfections or wear. Below average with more imperfections given the age, or with more wear.

With clear imperfections and/or possibly in need of minor restoration. With clear imperfections and/or possibly in need of serious restoration.

Unique, one of a kind, or an original on the open market. Very uncommon and/or very difficult to find on the open market. Uncommon and/or moderately difficult to find on the open market.

Frequently encountered, common and easy to find on the open market. All Measurements Are In Inches; Height Precedes Width. As appears printed upper left in the plate margin area just above the image, and was done as a small-run limited edition (as were the other etchings, engravings & mezzotints in the series of notable & eminent jurists, statesmen, authors & heroes) which Baremore did in the late 1890s, but the quantity in the edition was never stated- that I could find via research. The Remarque of the cherubs appears lower left in the plate margin area, and this may possibly have been an earlier etching in the original small Ltd. Printing run or possibly before???

Remarques are indications of earlier state printings before the regular editions were printed, struck before the title was added, and usually in the lower margins, typically on superior papers like vellum, parchment, Japon or China, and are usually burnished off for later printings and usually the only ones to be signed by the engraver or etcher. The Etching is in Excellent Rare+ condition for its antique age with Absolutely No Color FadeExquisite Fine Detail and Very Rich Blacks & Tones! The Etching was mounted to a stiff backing board a long time ago with its edges wrapped around the backing stock and glued from behind at the edges only, which has basically protected it this whole time. The piece was framed at one point a long time ago, and there is some light acid burn on the back of the backing stock (not affecting the Etching). The size mounted is 21" x 17-1/16", Image size is 14-7/8" x 13.75".

No damage at all in the image area. The stock in the outer margin areas has lightly warp-wrinkled and is slightly wavy here & there along the outer margin areas, but is basically negligible since the outer margins can easily be matted & framed out. There are a few slightly toned spots here & there in the outer margins, and the piece has some light topical soiling (lightly grubby) from age and from being in a drawer this whole time amongst other etchings & engravings, but is only noticeable in the outer margin areas-again, most of which can easily be matted & framed out.

This would make a fantastic addition to any Lawyer office/practice or historical art collection. 9:30-5:30 EST SUMMER HOURS: Tues-Fri, 9:30-4, Sats.
