It dates from around 1780 with the original mirror in a very good antique condition with no cracks but with minor foxing, not surprising on a mirror around 240 years old. The enamel is in exceptional condition on the outside of the box with only one tiny chip on the inside rim of the box. There are no repairs to the enamel and although the lid looks in a very good condition there are two tiny hairline cracks; one to the left side and one on the right, hardly noticeable unless you look with a magnifying glass.
It is nearly impossible to find an original one without any damage at all, not surprising as they are so small and once dropped easily damaged. The script on the top reads a very sweet If you my Love Accept of This Reward the Giver With a Kiss In the central cartouche is a Georgian couple sitting in the countryside kissing. This pretty little Georgian survivor would have been used for small patches to cover your smallpox scars if you were unlucky enough to have them.
