This is a superb and rare George II silver egg shaped nutmeg grater dating to around 1745 made by the excellent silversmith David Field who specialised in nutmeg graters. The condition is outstanding with no damage or repairs and has a lovely patina, as can be seen from the photos which form part of the description. You may find other Georgian egg shaped nutmeg graters but most are not in this fine condition.
The steel grater is also in excellent condition as are the threads on both halves of the egg. The length is 1.5 inches or approx 35mm.
