This is an antique livery badge from HORSE HARNESS that has a bird of prey on it with a ring in its beak. These are from the RAWSON family of NIDD HALL in Yorkshire. This badge as you can see has NEVER been attached to leather..It would have been on the leather horse harness of say the CARRIAGE that took the family here there and everywhere. So that other folks knew who was who. Its their livery crest from their coat of arms and all the workers, butlers and the like wore the silvered buttons on their garments.. Same applied to the horse harness.. These beautiful moulded badges were attached to the leather harness.
As you can see this has the lead in the back of the badge and the 3 bendy steel wires which would go thru the leather and bend over for attachment. Can you imagine the harness on this carriage adorned with these livery badges! No maker's marks etc. Notice this RING is hanging in the mouth of the Eagle... Whereas the livery button shows the ring in the mouth....
But be assured these are from the same Rawson Family. It is in collectable condition with normal signs of age and use wear. No damage to the metalware from what I can see. Please see pictures for more details.
And the thin wires are 12mm long. A very RARE item to find and worthy of my asking price. Once an item is the in the postal system any delays are out of my cont rol.
